International Women’s Day is a yearly celebration which falls on 8 March every year. But, we’re sure you knew that by now 😉
IWD is not the same as South African Women’s Day which is celebrated on August 9th, so don’t worry if you thought it was in August, the SA one is. International Women’s Day and Women’s Day in South Africa are different, but equally important celebrations.
So how do you celebrate International Women’s Day? Well, let’s have a look at a few fun ways to celebrate International Women’s Day with your friends!
Fight for your rights ladies and let’s get started:
1.The Yearly Theme
This year’s theme is #EachForEqual. Are you unsure of how to implement this theme in your celebration? Here is a quote from the website “An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.”
The theme and more details about #IWD2020 can be found on the official International Women’s Day website.
2.Join An IWD Event
Another really fun way to celebrate this day is to join local events with your friends and family. These events can be walks, marches, a parade, or any gathering that raises awareness about women’s rights and equality.
If you can’t find any upcoming events in your area, organize your own!
3.Be Heard! ♀️
As represented in this year’s theme, how will you help forge a gender-equal world? Blog about it, talk about it, share news and articles and opinions about it. Speak up and be heard!
Discuss gender equality in the workplace and how it affects women’s everyday lives. If there are people who don’t care, make them listen. Share your stories on social media with #EachForEqual and #IWD2020
4.Have A Sleepover
Lastly, after all that celebrating, you and your girls deserve some downtime. This is a really fun and lighthearted way to spend the day with your girl squad.
Watch movies about empowering women, funny women, women who made a difference – Have a full-on women themed night and chit-chat about everything that makes us unique, strong and independent!
Last Words
International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the 1900s. It was created as a way to fight for women’s rights and promote gender equality.
Although it’s quite a serious celebration, it can be fun and empowering too. Gather your girls, celebrate women, and be heard, ladies!
Remember, each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.
